Self Defense Family (End Of A Year) / Meredith Hunter - Split 7"

Self Defense Family (End Of A Year) / Meredith Hunter - Split 7"
128 kbps
"Post-hardcore favorites Self Defense Family are releasing a split 7″ this summer on Run For Cover Records. Yet there’s an interesting wrinkle in who they’re sharing vinyl with: themselves. While Side A offers the band’s new song, “Russian History,” Side B will feature the radiant blue-eyed soul number “Gold Star Mother,” released under the alias “Meredith Hunter”, a not-so-secret pseudonym for Self Defense Family. Where “Russian History” is a moody, tense, coiled four-and-a-half minutes of Nick Cave-esque post punk frayed nerves, “Gold Star Mother” is a lovely Sunday-afternoon interlude of AM pop, featuring a striking, bell-clear alto (courtesy of Martha Fotiadis) amongst the waves of a reedy major-key lilt. Featuring brightly curling Stax/Muscle Shoals guitars and a pleasantly weary groove reminiscent of golden-era Belle & Sebastian, “Gold Star Mother” is a gorgeous three minutes of sweetly blissed-out rhythm & blues, a welcome, optimistic sigh after the biting tension of the song’s flip side. Stream “Gold Star Mother” below and pre-order the split here."

Damn, WW4 did it again. If they didn't deserve the hype they had before, they definitely do now. Damn.

Admittedly I have not listened to this release a whole lot, I've listened to the 7" for the most part but it's still cool.

Right Brigade - Right Brigade LP

The final record from the band that "ruined" hardcore. Nice

This used to be one of my favorite records and I would listen to it every day. I still listen to it pretty regularly. This is from Revelation's "golden age" and is one of their better releases. Favorite track: Anything It Takes.

Newest release from SDF. Everything about this record's making was openly posted on twitter making it the most transparent music deal in history. Favorite track: You Don't Get What You Want.

I'm not a huge fan of this band, especially KOTF and the other new stuff. But this record is bad ass. Even has a cool hip hop track on it which is my favorite. Also Lockin Out Records released the physical record.

Both of Sticky Bros' 7"s plus a new song. Easily one of the best hardcore bands out right now. Finally saw them at the record release for this one last week and they were everything I could have hoped for. Damn fuckin cool band. Favorite track: Stick Together

A personal favorite of mine. I really regret missing the opportunity to see them when they played 20 minutes from my house before they broke up a year or two back.
Favorite track: Out Of Workaholic
